Taos boasts a rich and dynamic history that drives a thriving arts and cultural scene today. There’s Taos Pueblo, a Native American community that has been continuously inhabited for more than 1,000 years; the Taos Plaza, where locals and visitors alike gather to shop, eat, and visit art galleries; and San Francisco de Asis Church, which has been an inspirational force for Georgia O’Keeffe, Ansel Adams, and many other artists.
The shops at Taos Pueblo give visitors the unique experience of purchasing handmade arts and crafts including jewelry, pottery, and paintings. The family-owned businesses may often give visitors the opportunity to interact with the artisans themselves. The influences of the rich culture of the Pueblo can be seen throughout New Mexico and the southwest.
